Session Abstract

In recent years, additive manufacturing has transitioned from a prototyping tool to a viable alternative for part production; 3D printing of final production parts has soared in popularity. In this session, attendees will hear from manufacturing consultancy DuroLabs, and Proto Labs, a digital manufacturing company specializing in quick-turn prototypes and low-volume production parts using both traditional processes (like injection molding and CNC machining), as well as industrial 3D printing. The presenters will explore how considerations, such as design requirements, aesthetics, economics and current and future production quantities, must be factored into the equation when making manufacturing decisions. Different points along the product development process will have different needs, and therefore, utilization of different processes should be considered at the inception of a project.

Gain a better understanding of the advanced manufacturing process, as Michael Corr details a real-world case study from his time as Director of Engineering for a commercial drone company that was developing industrial grade UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). Proto Labs’ VP and GM of the Americas, Rob Bodor, will join Michael to expand on the broader 3D printing space, and the evolving manufacturing ecosystem as a whole.
